Author: Jill B. Bruce
Illustrator: Jan Wade
Summary: A nonfiction book offering information about birds of Australia.
As a mentor text for writing, the author/illustrator include a format for the reader to guess from the illustrations who are the parents of each chick. The reader can guess and then turn the page to reveal the answer and all the information on that type of bird. The author uses the same question throughout the book, "Whose chick is that?"
Again, just like in the book, No One Quite Like Me, students can choose their own topic, write their own question, only the difference compared to No One Quite Like Me, the students will need to illustrate their topic, ask the repetitive question, and then turn the page and write all the facts they want the reader to know about their topic.
The above product is available for sale on Teachers Pay Teachers in my store JourneyED through Educational Transformations for only $3.00! Two separate stations are included. One for students to read and write the names of 12 Australian birds and write fast facts about the cockatoo, The second station students write words that end in oo from task cards on a recording sheet, then have the opportunity to write their own sentences using the oo words. A great vocabulary building station!
