Santa Letter - A Letter Writing Station

Do you need a festive holiday literacy station that covers standards at the same time? This mini unit will have your students writing a letter to Santa and it covers the five parts of a friendly letter, how to properly address an envelope, and more. With this mini unit you will get:
1. A Letter from Santa page to identify the 5 parts of a friendly letter.
2. Design your own postage stamp.
3. Make a wish list of what you would like for Christmas.
4. Write a letter to Santa using the list you just made.
5. An example with the rules to follow when addressing envelopes.
6. Address an envelope to a friend.
7. Ten Task Cards with friendly letter themed vocabulary words with 3 activities - record the words on a recording sheet, put the 10 words in ABC order, and write sentences using each of the 10 words.
8. The last slide includes the front cover pictures of 4 picture books I use during this unit.

A Letter to Santa by Gaby Goldsack and illustrated by Caroline Pedler, published 2001. From back of book, "On Christmas Eve, when the snow was all white,
   I sat at my desk with a letter to write.
   Before I began, I thought what to say
   I'd like Santa to leave me on Christmas day."
This book includes not only an engaging story following the letter to Santa to find the secrets of Santa's workshop but, also Christmas-themed writing paper and envelopes to write your own letters to Santa!
The Jolly Christmas Postman by Janet & Allan Ahlberg, published 1991. Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Gingerbread Man, Little Red Riding Hood, are just a few story time favorites in this book with letters to all!
Pieces of Christmas by Teri Sloat, published in 2002. From front book flap - "When Santa returns from making the rounds, The letters he's answered lie drifted in mounds. He calls the North Wind to blow them around, And pieces of Christmas come swirling down."
